Christmas Tree

12/5/2005

Katie managed to snag a pair of tickets to the national christmas tree lighting last thursday. I got to see my first in person President about 50 yards away. This was slightly underwhelming considering the quality of said president…but it was neat none-the-less. There were a number af acts that performed before the actual lighting… my favorites of the night were The United States Navy Band, Ricky Skaggs(bluegrass!), and Maya Angelou who read a poem that she wrote which had some anti-war sentiment to it. This was pretty cool because Bushy was about 10 feet away from her.

After the tree lighting we went to a burger joint…don’t remember the name… the waitress was a bit crazy and even asked us “am I going crazy?” – she gave us our menus, took our orders, left for a while, came back and gave us menus again. We eventually got our drinks and our food, which was pretty good…I’d recommend the place if I could think of the name.

Wobble Jobber

Turducken

It’s thanksgiving day eve – I’ll be heading back to my folk’s place to get my fooding on. We’ll be having the traditional turkey, although I really want to try a turducken sometime. We also just finished up the food drive at work (in which I was “volunteered” to lead with a few others)…we had to count approximately 10,000 food items (mostly cans or vienna sausage and tuna)…I guess I tweaked my back a little bit while moving all of these cans to one central location. I should have reviewed the proper lifting technique first.

Yesterday Brendan came to town for a job interview so he crashed at my place. We went and saw Sarah Silverman’s movie “Jesus is Magic” (review below) and later got a growler of Ballston Brown from Rock Bottom…I think the Brown is my favorite beer that rock bottom brews…although I am a creature of habit so I don’t try the seasonal and brewers choice beers often enough.

Brendan also informed me that while we were roomates in Harrisonburg a few years ago – he caught some random people getting freaky in my bed and didn’t tell me until yesterday! (well they were half random…it was a sister of a friend of his and some random dude.) But that’s ok because I think some of my friend’s got it on in his bed at some point too.

Anyone know of any sweet black friday deals? I usually try to stay clear of droves of zombies “shopping” the day after thanksgiving…but I may venture out and risk it if I see something I really want.

Jesus is Magic

Jesus is Magic is a one woman show by Sarah Silverman which is a blend of stand up comedy and hokie musical numbers. In the opening scene Sarah says the show is about “The Holocaust and AIDS…..but it’s funny”. Silverman’s shtick is that she looks like a cute, wholesome, dainty female – and then she tells racist and rauchy jokes. (which for the most part are pretty funny…after each offensive joke I just had to look around the audience and make sure the stereotypes from the joke were laughing too (that makes it ok to laugh fyi))

It is funny – but not funny enough to spend $9.50 for a 74 minute movie. This is a definate rental and is good for a few laughs, but if you really want to see a good racey funny movie, see the Aristocrats (which Silverman is also in). I think I would have liked this movie a whole lot more had I not read a negative review with lots of spoilers about 5 minutes before I went into the movie because I knew a lot of the punchlines and plotlines coming up.

I give it 2.5 Angry Bees out of 5
