I’ve got gas
12/2/2004
I heard a discussion on a radio show yesterday about if gas was really that expensive. Apparently there is an article comparing the prices of gas versus other liquids. Some of these are pretty interesting: $2,701.52/gallon of printer ink (based on an average size cartridge at $30 a pop) and $38,858,507.46 a gallon for scorpian venom, and you and I both know most people can’t live without this luxury. Their gas price ($1.39/gallon) is a bit low compared to this area (~$1.88/gallon last time I filled up)…but even at this level the only liquids on the list cheaper than gas are tap water, folgers coffee, and kool-aid.
The thing is, most of the liquids on the list are used in far less quantites than gasoline. I don’t need to buy 15 gallons of chocolate syrup to get to work every week. I think a better comparison would be the average amount a person spends on gas per year vs. the rest of these liquids. I guarantee I spend more on gas every year than soy sauce, shampoo, or patchouli oil (although i’ve been to a few concerts were some of the people could have gone the other way on that last one).
Anyways, the point to all of this is that in todays economy with respect to inflation and the current unemployment rate, keynesian economics cleary show that the price of Jamba Juice and scorpian venom is way to high and need to drop at least 37 cents a barrel.
